Good Morning – a little rainy - but still a nice morning. This is your brief personal update of what’s been happening at Mackie Lake House.
The Lake House celebrated 100 years on August 14th and 15th with live entertainment, our first scrabble tournament, mini house tours and of course, tea in the garden. The event was well attended and there is definitely interest in staging an annual scrabble tourney. The House has hosted several weddings, concerts and picnics and proudly continued the elementary school program with help from Sharon Lawrence in Fylton Forest and Christine Pilgrim as Mrs. Mackie.
We also initiated an “Artist in Residence Program” that supports the development of art and culture in the community and contributed to the School District #22 Scholarship Program.
In September join us for two more events:
Mackie Lake House welcomes their eighth Writer in Residence. Peter Midgley’s poetry has appeared in Canadian and South African journals and his bilingual volume of poems “perhaps I should” will come out with Kalamalka Press in 2010. His award winning children’s books have been translated into 28 languages. He is also the author of two plays, “Archetypes” and “Namlish.” Please join us on Monday, September 13 at 7 pm for a reception to welcome Peter. Refreshments will be served.
Patrick Fylton Mackie, born September 15, 1922 would have been 88 years of age this year and to celebrate we are inviting all his friends to join us for a potluck dinner on Sunday, September 19 here on the lawns at Mackie Lake House. It will be a perfect opportunity to reunite with old friends, talk about old times and remember Paddy. Gates open at 3 pm. Bring your crib board or scrabble and we will try to find someone who can play the flute. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and we will have some tables set up for games.
Watch for information on our Remembrance Day Celebration in November.
Best Wishes,
