Around The House

Christine Kashuba – Mackie Lake House Manager
Spring 2020

It’s great to see the bulbs pushing up through the ground and we’re looking forward to the blossoms soon!

We have our School Field trip program running from the end of April until May 22.  Included in the field trip is a guided tour of the Historic Mackie Lake House including the history of the Lake House, the Mackie family and the Coldstream. The students also experience an interactive experience in Fylton Forest – an onsite outdoor classroom that facilitates exploration of our natural world.  We are happy to be partnering with the UBCO Community Placement program which provides a teaching opportunity for one of their students and support for our school program.

To celebrate Mother’s Day treat the special mother in your life to an elegant and decadent springtime tea at Mackie Lake House on Sunday, May 10 at 10 am or 2 pm.  You’ll love our selection of teas, delicious finger sandwiches, fluffy scones with Devonshire cream and preserves, and decadent desserts. Tea is served in elegant fine bone China on the beautiful verandah overlooking Kalamalka Lake and our scenic gardens.  All guests have the option of touring through the exquisite country mansion and live music will complement the event. Tickets for this tea and tour are $45 per person, available only at www.ticketseller.ca

At the end of May there will be some changes at Mackie Lake House as I am retiring and our new manager Valerie Cherwoniak will begin. To ensure a smooth transition Valerie will be here March 15 and we will work together until the end of May.  She will be learning about Mackie Lake House and meeting all of you and getting to know about this fabulous place.  I’m looking forward to working with her and introducing her to all of you!

Celebrating spring but looking forward to the summertime here are some things to put into your calendar!

Enjoy live music and great company in one of the most beautiful outdoor concert settings the Okanagan has to offer. Our Music at Mackie dates for this year are June 19, July 24, and August 21, full details and tickets $25 available at www.ticketseller.ca.  On the day of the outdoor concert pack up your favourite picnic supper and a lawn chair to enjoy live music while you dine al fresco on the lawns overlooking Kalamalka Lake at historic Mackie Lake House or if you prefer, just come listen to the music—the choice is yours! Beer and wine are available at our cash bar. You’ll love this event for a summertime date night, or make it a family affair: children under 12 are welcome free of charge!

Beginning Tuesdays at 11 am, each week from July 7 until August 25 tour the grounds and explore this exceptional example of a country mansion, while learning about the architecture, history, and decorative elements that make this home unique. The collection within these walls has a story to tell—you’ll love traveling back in time with us! Tickets for tours are just $10 per person.

With summertime comes our very special Thursday Afternoon Teas with sittings at 2 pm.  Join us in your fancy summer attire, hats and gloves…or come as you are! You’ll love our selection of teas, delicious finger sandwiches, fluffy scones with Devonshire cream and preserves, and delicate desserts. Tea is served in elegant fine bone china on the beautiful verandah that overlooks Kalamalka Lake and Mackie’s scenic gardens. All guests have the option of purchasing a ticket that includes touring through the exquisite country mansion. Tickets for these Thursday afternoon teas are $30 and if you include the tour $35 per person, available only at www.ticketseller.ca

And that’s just a taste of what is to come this year.  Plan ahead and purchase tickets for all of our summer events including Tours, Teas, and our Music at Mackie outdoor concerts at www.ticketseller.ca

 Happy Spring,

Christine
